Why WRAVEN Stands With the Electronic Frontier Alliance

Our commitment to digital freedom, security, and research through the EFA’s five principles.

Why WRAVEN Stands With the Electronic Frontier Alliance

At WRAVEN, we believe cybersecurity isn’t just about exploits, patches, or indicators of compromise. It’s about people, and the systems we all rely on. That’s why we support the values of the Electronic Frontier Alliance (EFA), a network organized by the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The EFA unites groups like ours that care about technology, freedom, and security.

The EFA outlines five simple principles. Here’s what they mean to us:

1. Free Expression

The internet should be a space where people can share ideas without fear of censorship. Security research and open discussion drive progress. If people are silenced, vulnerabilities stay hidden, and everyone is less safe.

2. Privacy

Privacy is security. From encrypted messaging to anonymous browsing, the ability to control personal data matters. At WRAVEN, we treat privacy not as a luxury, but as a baseline requirement for digital life.

3. Transparency

Trust is earned through openness. Governments, companies, and even research groups need to be honest about how they operate. WRAVEN makes our research, events, and resources as open as possible so others can verify and build on it.

4. Security

Everyone deserves access to strong, modern security. We study threats not to gatekeep, but to help others defend themselves. Knowledge should harden systems, not stay locked behind closed doors.

5. Creativity

Hacking is a creative act. Building, breaking, and remixing technology is how we learn. The EFA recognizes that creativity and innovation should be protected, not criminalized.

Why This Matters

Joining the EFA connects us with other groups who share these values: student clubs, digital rights advocates, hacker spaces, and local community orgs. Together, we can support each other’s work and push for a future where cybersecurity means empowerment, not fear.

For WRAVEN, endorsing the EFA’s principles isn’t just about the slogans. It’s about aligning with a larger movement that sees freedom, security, and research as inseparable. That’s the fight we want to be part of.
